Casa degli Elefanti is ideal for a large family or group of friends wishing to stay right in the heart of the action yet with plenty of private garden space to relax in.
Location and Surrounding Area. The Casa degli Elefanti is in a prime location less than ten minutes from both the famous Capri Piazzetta and the nearest beach. There is so much to see and do on Capri; a boat trip around the island and into the fabled Blue Grotto, a visit to the Emperor Tiberius' villas or the house-museum of the Swedish physician Axel Munthe. At least one evening aperitif in the celebrity-studded central Piazzetta of Capri is an absolute must. Although the island of Capri has long been a favourite haunt of the international jet set, it manages to retain an idyllic beauty and there are some excellent walking trails across Monte Solaro and over to the three picture-postcard Faraglioni rocks. Monte Solaro soars almost 600 metres above sea level and there is also a chairlift from Anacapri. From the summit, you can see not only the whole island but also across to the Amalfi Coast, the city of Naples and the mountains of Calabria.
Legend has it that Ulysses was seduced by the sirens at Marina Piccola. This delightful little bay is sheltered from the wind and it's highly likely that you'll find the locals enjoying the sun here in the winter and the fresh fish restaurants are excellent. The panoramic via Krupp takes you from Marina Piccola to Capri via the Gardens of Augustus.
The island of Capri covers a total of only 10km2 so most of the attractions on the island are within a reasonable walking distance or a short taxi ride away. The only large supermarket on the island is just around the corner, as are the bus and taxi stops. The ferries to Naples leave from Marina Grande and take about 45 minutes. From Naples, you are within easy reach of Pompeii, Vesuvius, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. There are also direct ferries to Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano from Capri. Naples International airport is a ten minute taxi ride from the port.
The Property. This beautiful Italian style villa was built in the 1950s during the heyday of Capri's stardom. In addition to being in the centre of all the glamour, the beach is only a five minute walk away and there are 500m2 of private gardens to kick back in afterwards. In fact, Casa degli Elefanti has hosted some of the most celebrated parties on the island over the years.
This exquisitely furnished, light and airy villa comfortably sleeps up to eleven guests in 5 double bedrooms on two floors. On the main floor, there are two spacious double bedrooms and each has its own large bathroom with bathtub and shower. There is also an enormous living room, with two relaxing areas and a TV corner, which has access to the big terraces. The dining area easily seats eight people around a splendid wooden table. The kitchen is stylishly modern with Capri tiles and fully equipped with all the necessaries including oven and dishwasher.
On the ground floor, there are three further double bedrooms with three en suite bathrooms, another comfortable living room with dining area and a smaller, but fully functional, kitchen. One of these three double bedrooms has an extra single bed for a child if needed and one is a spacious twin room with a walk-in closet. The bathroom for the twin room has a shower whereas the other two have both tub and shower.
The fully furnished outside dining area on the patio is ideal for al fresco evening meals under the stars and there is an extra useful outside shower in the garden for post-beach rinse-offs.. The garden areas are beautiful maintained with trailing Mediterranean plants and there are plenty of shady corners with tables and chairs to hide away with a good book.
